"A Declaration of Dependence"
Galatians is the Magna Charta and the Declaration of Independence of Evangelical Christianity. It is St. Paul’s great declaration of religious freedom - a freedom that involves independence from our culture and dependence on God. There is an irony here, we gain our independence through our dependence or even by becoming dependent. The themes of social morals, national interests and personal rights will be on the lips of our politicians and the front pages of our papers in this season of election. This is a good season for us to reflect on what “freedom”, “independence” and “justice” mean for the Christian. |
