Scripture: John 2
Key points to ponder: This is the first sign Jesus did in this book, and through this sign his disciples believed in him. Jesus performed the signs in order to point to his true identity, not to be an end in themselves.
Challenging terms: When Jesus talked about destroying and rebuilding the temple (verse 20-21), he was talking about his death and resurrection on the cross.
Question: Why was Jesus initially reluctant to do this sign?
Prayer: Father, thank you for the ways Christ is revealed through his signs in Scripture and in our lives.
Consider praying that the signs you read about Jesus performing and the signs you have seen in your life lead to a deeper belief in God. Pray that your faith would not be solely dependent on signs (or the absence of signs) that you see in your life, but on the character of Jesus.
