SCRIPTURE: Acts 11
Key Points to Ponder: Imagine if you worked for a small business that delivers products to your local region, and then one day your boss comes in and says that you’re now going to deliver your product to every country on the planet. You’d probably be a little overwhelmed! Perhaps that’s how the Jewish Christians felt in Acts chapter 11. This revelation wasn’t merely a stepping stone in Peter’s faith in God, this news was huge. That is why the whole story is repeated as Peter now shares it with the church in Jerusalem. God’s good news wasn’t just for a small portion of one race, his plan for salvation was global! Peter was ushering in God’s ultimate plan to reach all people with the gospel. It’s a worldwide rescue mission. The disciples
didn’t realize that they’d signed up for something so large scale and magnificent, but through the fear of the Lord and the comfort of the Holy Spirit (chapter 9:31), they let God use them. When we became a Christian, what did we think we were signing up for? Did we expect a simple, easy life with some prayers and church sprinkled here and there? Or did we realize that God’s called us to this amazing life of sharing his salvation with the whole world?
CHALLENGING TERMS: The famine mentioned in verse 28 is believed to have happened around AD 45-47.
REFLECTION: Do you feel a part of God’s global mission? Does this call as a Christian scare you or excite you?
PRAYER: Jesus, thank you for giving us such an amazing calling! Thank you that we can work with you to share your salvation with all people.
Pray that God would give you excitement and fearlessness in proclaiming his salvation to all the people in your life.
