SCRIPTURE: James 2
KEY POINTS TO PONDER: 1) We are not to show partiality based upon wealth or anything else (2:1-4). 2) Good works will accompany genuine faith (2:14-18).
CHALLENGING TERMS: One could take James’ statements on the importance of works as being the means by which we are saved, however, it is clear from numerous places in Scripture that we are saved by God’s grace, and out of that good works flow (Ephesians 2:8-10). Faith alone saves, but the faith that saves is not alone.
QUESTION: How does being justified (right with God, not having to earn or work for salvation) enable and encourage us towards good works?
PRAYER: Father, thank you for giving us salvation and every spiritual blessing through faith in Christ. May our faith overflow into the good works that you have set before us to do.
Consider praying that God would show you the good works that he has prepared for you (Ephesians 2:10) and for the grace to carry them out in His strength and not our own.
