SCRIPTURE: Luke 11
KEY POINTS TO PONDER: God, our Heavenly Father, is the greatest giver of gifts. He desires us to come to him with our needs and requests, and to depend on him as children depend on their father. Verses 5-9 show that as people we will give to one another simply to avoid inconveniences. If that is the case how much more will our Heavenly Father give us good gifts? Jesus was never enamored with
crowds. There is a repetitive theme that as crowds gathered (v. 29), he would say hard things. He wasn’t interested in crowds -- he was interested in followers.
CHALLENGING TERMS: The woes that Jesus gives to the Pharisees in verses 37-44 has to do with focusing on the external issues to the neglect of more important things. Cleaning the outside of dishes, but not the inside (vs 39), means looking good and holy on the outside but not dealing with any real selfishness or greed within.
REFLECTION: What’s a current need in your life? Has this led to more frequent dialogue with God in prayer?
PRAYER: Father, thank you that you are so generous and loving and you give us exactly what we need. Help me to be persistent in prayer, and to be overfilled with joy as I spend time with you.
