SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 5
KEY POINTS TO PONDER: 1) We must clothe ourselves in humility (v. 5). It doesn’t matter our position in life, humility is the way of true power. Christ served us with the ultimate act of humility. 2) We have a real enemy, Satan, who is described like a roaring lion (v. 8). We must take this enemy seriously, without fear. Like James told us in chapter 4, Peter tells us to resist him (v. 9). That means we can’t be passive spectators when he attacks, but must anchor ourselves in the truths of the Word.
CHALLENGING TERMS: God’s flock (v. 2) is us, also referred to as sheep. The Chief Shepherd is Christ.
QUESTIONS: Which aspect of your life is it most necessary to “clothe” yourself in humility? What practical steps would that entail?
PRAYER: Thank you, Father that the way to true contentment and being grounded in this life is through humility. Thank you for Christ’s example of humility on my behalf.
Consider praying that God would you give strength to resist Satan by listening to God’s voice in His Word over above any other voices.
